Northern Colorado Tutoring: Math, Science, English, Computers, Test Prep, and more
Hello and welcome to my tutoring blog. The main point of this blog is to get my contact information out there for anyone in the area that might need personalized tutoring. I've been working with my own children for many years now, helping them to get through middle school and now high school, and it can be a difficult process. I'm offering tutoring to students, from middle school up through high school — I can also help with college and adults, as well as younger children, but I'm primarily interested in grades 6–12.
My background includes a bachelor's degree in computer science, with plenty of math and statistics involved in my daily work. I've been a tech journalist for over twenty years as well and am well equipped to help with English, writing, and other subjects. I graduated with high honors from high school (waaay back in the day!), scoring a 33 composite on my ACT and a 1420 on my SAT, and can also help with test preparation. I had a "full ride" scholarship to a prestigious university thanks to my efforts in school, so I know what's required to succeed.
I charge $75 per hour (subject to change), but I'll do the first one-hour tutoring session for $50 as a trial run. If you don't like how I teach and tutor, no harm done and you can move on and try someone else. I can tutor at my home or yours, or a neutral location if you have one, though I do charge for travel time if you want me to come to you.
I offer an individualized approach, working with whatever course materials your student uses at school. That way they can focus on improving in their own curriculum, and I'm familiar with standardized teaching methods, particularly with regards to math. We can use outside sources as well, but it's important to be able to pass your own math tests, using whatever approach your teacher and/or text book take.
If you are interested in hiring me, drop me a note. I accept cash, check, and Venmo as payment options. I'm flexible, so if you really want to try online tutoring I can do that as well, but I find that's typically less productive than in-person tutoring. Parents are welcome to be in the room during tutoring sessions, but please only one student at a time.
